John DeMillio has been a member of the Sea Girt Police Department since 1990 and is currently a Lieutenant heading administration and support services. During his tenure with the agency, assignments included Communications, Patrol, Investigations, Internal Affairs, and Administrative Services.
John was assigned to the Accreditation Program in 2010, giving him over a decade of experience with the accreditation process. He was responsible for assisting the agency through each cycle of accreditation to date. During his role in the accreditation program, he was a policy writer for the agency, keeping the agency directives relevant and compliant. He was also responsible for the development and implementation of in-service training. Lieutenant DeMillio developed the agency’s Field Training Program, manages the temporary detention facility, and oversees the evidence and property function.
Lieutenant DeMillio helped his agency transition from a paper-based records management system to a modern computer-based records system. He was responsible for researching, securing funding, and implementing a computerized CAD/RMS system. Later, when the agency transitioned to the County Communications Center and CAD/RMS system, Lieutenant DeMillio was assigned as the agency liaison to the Law Enforcement Communications Working Group. The Law Enforcement Communication Working Group works to standardize communications procedures amongst the agency who contract services with the County Communications Center.
Lieutenant DeMillio is an instructor for the Monmouth County Police Academy and the Division of Criminal Justice Academy. For over 20 years, he has instructed hundreds of basic training recruits in Domestic Violence Investigation and Expandable Baton training.
Lieutenant DeMillio worked with the New Jersey Public Safety Accreditation Coalition as a Mock Assessor.
He participated in numerous mock assessments, which assisted agencies in verifying compliance before calling for an official assessment. His experience as a mock assessor led him to a seat on the Board of Directors for the organization. During his time with the N.J.P.S.A.C., he instructed during the annual conferences and regional workshops.
Lieutenant DeMillio studied at Richard Stockton University and Thomas Edison State University. He currently resides in Point Pleasant, N.J.
